UT Library: Library Research Assignment- Finding ArticlesStudents need access to the libary's website in order to use databases to complete the research this assignment involves. Goals: Students will become familiar with using library databases to do research for class assignments. In order to prepare to write any paper, students must first brainstorm key terms, then use library on-line resources to research those terms. The best place to start your search for articles on a topic is in a library database, which contains citations* to numerous articles which you can search by title, author, keyword, etc. Some databases also contain the full text of the article. Library databases work differently than Google – so you’ll need to search them in a different way. You first need to break your topic down into concepts and brainstorm alternate keywords (search terms). Make sure your keywords include broader, narrower and related terms. In our example, the first two columns represent our main concepts. The third column represents aspects of the issue that would be important to the recording industry. Refer to the attached worksheet to guide your progress.
