This was my 5th of 6 short assignments for RHE 306. I understood that some students were tired of the controversies surrounding immigration that they had been researching all semester, so I gave them the option of picking a visual text that applied to their controversy or one that didn't. The results were extremely diverse and generally very good.
Pedagogical Goals of the Assignment
For students to apply the rhetorical analysis skills they have been applying to verbal texts to visual ones.
Assignment Description
The students write a 1-2 page rhetorical analysis of a visual text, applying the methods advised in Chapter 5 of Good Reasons (contextual and textual analysis).
