I have not employed this in my class, but I got it from Anna, who tried it last year at the end of the semester. I plan to spend two class periods going over the assignment, how they will be evaluated by me and their peers, and what constitutes a successful speech. We will probably watch selections from Obama's March 17, 2008 speech as a model of delivery, mostly because I have already assigned that speech as a text for class.
Pedagogical Goals of the Assignment
For students to present their argument in oral format to the class, along with paper 3 at the end of RHE 306.
Assignment Description
Students each give a 4-6 minute speech summarizing the argument they make in paper 3.
